I have just begun recruiting efforts to find a group of volunteers who can work with me to create this event, which we plan to hold in October this year. Here is the plan:
On Sunday afternoon, Oct. 15, we plan to welcome folks from all walks of life, people of all ages, race and creed - to come together at a yet-to-be- determined location with one purpose: to fellowship and join together in song.
The committee will secure an inside location that is able to accommodate a crowd of this size, as well as a reach-out to churches, youth groups, schools, colleges, senior citizen centers, scouts, organizations...anywhere there may be people who might want to be involved.
The committee will conduct a search for musicians, spirit leaders and pastors, music directors, celebrity appearances, conductors, and volunteers to work the event. There will be an enormous public relations outreach through radio, newspapers, digital and social media, print advertising and a variety of other ways to spread the word. The committee will also select a nonprofit organization in the area which will benefit from the small admission fee charged upon admission.
At the event itself, people will come in, receive a printed program with the event information and lyrics of the selected songs, have a seat and wait until the event begins. The afternoon will include special, brief remarks and prayers by spirit leaders/pastors, introduction of special guests and celebrities and then - one thousand voices will join together, singing songs such as the late Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah,” “You Raise Me Up,” "How Great Thou Art,” "The Old Rugged Cross" and many more - songs that swell the heart and stir the soul.
This event will be a major undertaking, and it promises to be one of this year's most inspirational and glorious afternoon of music and love for our neighbors.
Mark your calendars, and stay tuned for updates on the event. There will be opportunities for you to consider so that you can be involved:
* Join the committee, and help us plan; committee meetings will be held in Westernport once a month in June, July and August, and bi-weekly in September. Meetings will be limited to 90 minutes max.
* Submit your favorite nonprofit group for consideration as the group the event will benefit; "call for application" coming soon
* Come and sing! You don't have to be a great singer, or even a good singer. Just come and experience a perfect blend of voices to glorify God who loves us all...warts, sins and weakness and all.
* Sign on to be part of the Hallelujah Orchestra - piano, cello, violin, mandolin, brass, percussion, guitar, bass, woodwinds, flute...
* Help us promote the event on social media. When you see our posts, share them on your Facebook page, invite your friends, invite your church family
* Volunteer as part of our Hallelujah Staff on October 15...we may have shirts,
too!
