ELK GARDEN - Elk Garden voters had their say Tuesday and elected challenger Marian Droppleman as their new mayor.
A total of 48 Elk Garden residents turned out to vote.
Droppleman, who received 35 votes, will replace multiple-term mayor Lawrence “Buddy” Stonebraker, who was charged earlier this year with grand larceny and pled down to a misdemeanor charge, paying the  $1,000 in question back to the town.
Stonebraker received 13 votes.
In the council race, two incumbents - Kevin Broadwater and Jodi Paugh - were re-elected, and will be joined on the council by Michael Droppleman, Tom Braithwaite and Jean Braithwaite.
The vote totals were as follows: Michael Droppleman, 43; Tom Braithwaite, 38; Kevin Broadwater, 31; Jodi Paugh, 26; Jean Braithwaite, 26; Dave Tichnell, 23; Gary Wildman, 20; and Charles Welch, 18.
In addition, town recorder Katie Jones, who ran unopposed, received 47 votes.
