CRESAPTOWN - Calvary Christian Academy held its 43rd commencement ceremony on Friday evening, May 26, with 14 graduating in the Class of 2017.

CRESAPTOWN - Calvary Christian Academy held its 43rd commencement ceremony on Friday evening,  May 26, with 14 graduating in the Class of 2017.
        Levi Demers  earned the honor of valedictorian. He received a Distinguished Christian Student Award for academics, athletics, and Christian service from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), the accrediting organization for Calvary Christian Academy.
He also received the Cheryl Stephens Memorial Testimony Award in the amount of $250, the Roger Mills Founder Award in the amount of $250, the Korean War Veterans of Western Maryland Award in the amount of $100, and the Woodmen of the World American History Award.  
Brooke Ricker earned the honor of salutatorian. Brooke received a Distinguished Student Award for academics, athletics, and Christian service from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), the President’s Education Award, and the Doris Wheeler Female Student Athlete of the Year.   
   Pastor Jeremy Adams addressed the seniors as the keynote speaker and presented the graduates.  
Daniel M. Thompson, CCA administrator, awarded diplomas. The tassels were turned by Robert Hays, CCA history teacher and class advisor, and the roses were handed out by Rebeccah McCauley, CCA English and Spanish teacher.
       The following graduates were awarded special honors:    
Madison Adams—Sonny’s Transfer Teaching Award in the amount of $750;
Madeline Adwell—Justin Gough Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $200;
Erica Bennett—ACSI Distinguished Christian Student Award for fine arts and third place for oil painting in the Regional Fine Arts Fair;  
Olivia Cesnick— ACSI Distinguished Christian Student Award for fine arts and leadership and second place for poetry in the Regional Fine Arts Fair;
Benjamin Michael— ACSI Distinguished Christian Student Award for athletics and Christian service, the John Mark Award, the Tom Wotring Memorial Basketball Scholarship in the amount of $250, and the Geoff Wheeler Male Student Athlete of the Year;  
Ashley Riddle— ACSI Distinguished Christian Student Award for academics, fine arts, leadership, and Christian service, the Moody Leadership Award in the amount of $250; the Beulah Kitzmiller Memorial Writing/Arts Scholarship in the amount of  $250, the Woodmen of the World American History Award, the Testimony Award, the CCA Scholastic Award, the CCA Outstanding Contribution Award, and Community Service Recognition.
Derek Umstot—the Fred Hartsock Outdoorsman Award in the amount of $250.
       Honor students wearing a gold cord for maintaining a 90 percent or above academic average over a four-year period were Levi Demers, Benjamin Michael, Brooke Ricker, and Ashley Riddle.   
A special award was given to Olivia Cesnick and Benjamin Michael for spending their entire school career at Calvary Christian Academy.
   The following students have received special scholarships:
 Madison Adams—Allegany College of Maryland Student Council Scholarship $200; 
Madeline Adwell—Dr. W. Ardell and Wilma G. Haines Scholarship  $1,000;
Levi Demers—Gilpin Freshman Scholarship Award, the Robert E. Pence Memorial Christian Scholarship $500, the Wotring Memorial Basketball Award $250, and the Rotary Scholarship $1,000;  
Alicia Jackson—Potomac State College of WVU Scholarship of Distinction (Level 2) $1,800; Benjamin Michael James A. Michael Memorial $1,200, Jim Ricker Jr. Memorial Scholarship $500, and Allegany County Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club of Cumberland Outstanding Business Student Award;
Brooke Ricker—Belhaven Academic Achievement Scholarship $52,000 ($13,000/year), and the Belhaven Founders Scholarship $8,000 ($2,000/year);
Ashley Riddle—Cedarville University Dean’s Excellence Scholarship $40,000 ($10,000/year), Cedarville University Fund Scholarship $4,000 ($1,000/year), Cedarville University Founders Scholarship $4,000 ($1,000/year), Cedarville University One Campus Leadership Scholarship $8,000 ($2,000/year), Voice of Democracy Scholarship in the amount of $225, Daughters of American Revolution Good Citizen Scholarship $50;
Derek Umstot— Verso Corporation Scholarship $500.
       Diplomas were awarded to Madison Elise Adams, Madeline Rae Adwell, Erica Jade Bennett,, Olivia Catherine Cesnick, Levi David Demers, Tabitha Noel Durst, Caleb Michael Froelich, Alicia Rose Jackson, Rachel Lauren Kester, Benjamin Ryan Michael, Brooke Whitney Ricker, Ashley Nicole Riddle, Griffith James Speis, and Derek Andrew Umstot.
