Librarian Connie Sutton spoke with Keyser Rotarians on Thursday about Mineral County Days in Charleston.
She also spoke about the Keyser Mineral County Public Library and a possibility of a new library.
Sutton noted that Mineral County Days were held January 9-10, and 50 Mineral County residents were in attendance. She remarked that a lot was accomplished for Mineral County, including the approval of funding for a stop light at the intersection of Pin Oak Lane and Rt. 220, where the new Potomac Valley Hospital will be located.
Sutton also mentioned that the evening reception held on the second day was a huge success. The reception was informal and drew in a crowd of 119 people, which included senators and delegates.
“Mineral County Days was good for me because I got to meet people that don't come in the library on regular basis” said Sutton. “It's a good place to meet state contacts and it lets them know that Mineral County is awake and politically active.”
Sutton also said the library business was doing well and she is looking into funding for a new library. She noted that the new library would possibly be located near Rainbow Lanes and Fire Hall #2 and would be about 7,000 square feet with room for additions.
“I am hoping to have a small performance area that will seat about 100 people and an open space where people can sit down with a book and a cup of coffee,” said Sutton.
