VIRGINIA BEACH —The Secretary of the Navy has awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal to Petty Officer Ryan Naughton for professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties as a combat information center (CIC) watchstander in USS Nicholas (FFG 47) From February to November 2008.
Petty Officer Naughton demonstrated initiative in maintaining a high level of operational readiness for radar navigation and CIC watchstanding in support of standing NATO Maritime Group–08.
His efforts resulted in over 35 flawless navigation details.
As an exceptional watchstander, his cross-rate level of knowledge became evident as Nicholas successfully completed not only combat scenarios, but also force protection exercises leading to a surge-ready deployment status within 10 weeks after returning from deployment.
Petty Officer Naughton’s professionalism and steadfast devotion to duty reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Navy.
Naughton resides in Virginia Beach, Va., with his wife, Veronica (Tasker) Naughton. He is the son of Carol and Jim Naughton of Keyser.
