KEYSER — The Mineral County Board of Education has called a special meeting for 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, for the purpose of considering the information gathered during a citizen's appeal made before the board during their regular meeting on June 17.
The appeal, held in executive session,
was a “Level III” hearing which, according to the  West Virginia State Board of Education’s website, is an appeal before the county board of education. It comes only after the aggrieved citizen has first met informally with the school principal or administrator (Level I), then progresses to a  hearing  before the superintendent (Level II).
On June 17, approximately 90 minutes had been allotted for the closed-door appeal hearing. The hearing got underway at approximately 4 p.m., however, and lasted until past 6 p.m.
Once the board members are finished deliberating on Tuesday, they must go back into open session before they can render a decision on the appeal.
If the citizen is not satisfied with the conclusion of the board in the Level III appeal hearing, the next step is the state superintendent of schools.
The only other item of business on the agenda for Tuesday's meeting is listed as “any personnel items which may come before the board.” As the board is currently in the process of filling teaching, service, and extra-curricular positions for the next school term, it is expected there may be some items presented to the board at that time.
The meeting will be held at the county administrative offices, 1 Baker Place, Keyser.
