Keyser, W.Va. -

More than eight years ago, the Mineral County Historical Foundation purchased the Carskadon Mansion on Radical Hill with the intention of establishing a Mineral County Museum and Family Research Center.

Local fundraisers and grants provided the necessary funds to restore and enhance the exterior of the mansion.

Finally, work has begun on the interior of the mansion beginning with the stabilizing of the basement wall foundations, which required several yards of concrete. Valley Redi-Mix of Keyser made a generous contribution toward this phase of the restoration.

This allowed for the installation of the first floor joists.
Boddy’s Construction of New Creek has contracted to complete this current restoration phase.

A grant provided by the West Virginia State Historic Preservation Office made this latest phase possible.

The restoration of the Carskadon Mansion, the future Mineral County Museum and Family Research Center has been a long process due to the lack of funding.

Work has progressed as monies have become available through grants and fundraisers.  A limited number of individuals have been striving for this dream for all of Mineral County; however, deaths and ill health have reduced the number of members of the group who are able to pursue this goal.

When completed, the Mineral County Museum and Family Research Center will be for the general public and everyone’s help is needed to make this dream a reality.

Help can be in the form of grant research and writing, serving on the board of directors, joining the Friends of the Mansion, volunteering to do physical work, assisting in fundraisers, and/or donating any amount of money.
