Mineral County students mark National FFA Week

Members of the Keyser City Council approved a resolution Wednesday recognizing National FFA Week, with students from the Mineral County FFA in attendance. Founded in 1928 as Future Farmers of America, the national youth organization embodies the motto “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve. " Today FFA is one of the largest youth groups in the United States, with over 520,000 members in 7,439 chapters throughout all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

The Mineral County FFA chapter is celebrating National FFA Week this week.
“Infinite Potential” is the theme this year and it embodies all the best about FFA members, from the most recognizable symbol of the organization, the blue corduroy jacket, a symbol of pride and tradition, to the bright future of agriculture and the traditions of leadership and hard work.
More than half a million members around the nation will participate in National FFA Week activities at the local and state levels.
The focus of National FFA Week is to tell America about the great opportunities available for all youth. From its beginnings in 1928 as the Future Farmers of America, the National FFA Organization today reaches out to all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
FFA is committed to developing character and leadership skills and preparing members for a lifetime of civic leadership and career success.
Locally, as a part of National FFA Week, the Mineral County FFA Chapter is planning the following special events:
• A bowling event open to all FFA members.
• A chapter FFA Poster Contest with the theme “FFA Infinite Potential.”
• Signing of  National FFA Week Proclamation on Wednesday.
• Staff and Faculty Appreciation Thursday.
• A chapter FFA meeting to be held on Friday.
• A trip to the PA Horse World’s Theatre Equus on Friday
Throughout the week, there have been activities in class, dress-up days, a faculty and staff appreciation day, and FFA and agricultural awareness days for the entire school.
Students have been trimming hams and bacons  in preparation for the chapters annual Ham Bacon and Egg Auction scheduled for Friday, March 11.
FFA membership in Mineral County Schools is open to students enrolled in agricultural education classes at the Mineral County Technical Center and Frankfort High School.
Agricultural education classes  offered include : Agriculture and Natural Resources I & II, Agriculture Mechanics I & II, Animal Science – Large, Animal Science- Small,  Aquaculture, CAD, Equine Science,  Small Engines Forestry I & II, Horticulture, OxyAcetylene Welding, Plant Science, and Wildlife Management.
