KEYSER – Some of the most beloved songs from some of Broadway's biggest hits will fill the air at the Keyser High School theater next weekend when Apple Alley Players present their third annual benefit show.
The idea for staging a benefit to help raise funds for needed repairs at the rustic Larenim Park Amphitheater – the traditional home for Apple Alley's summer musicals – started three years ago when Alex McDonald, then a student at Frankfort High School, became appalled at the toll that time and the weather had taken on the 25-year-old amphitheater.
McDonald gathered together some of his friends, as well as Apple Alley performers, and scheduled a benefit show at the amphitheater that October. The weather once again had its say, however, and McDonald had to move the show indoors to Frankfort's theater.
The money raised through that initial show – along with funds from Mineral County Parks and Recreation – were used to make some badly needed repairs to the flooring of the amphitheater, thus opening the way for Apple Alley to return to outdoor summer theater that year with a successful run of “Music Man.”

In 2011, the benefit show was moved to Keyser High School, where Apple Alley has rehearsed its productions since last summer.
This year, the show is set once again in Keyser High's theater and will feature 16 of Broadway's most beloved songs performed by some of the area's best voices.
The lineup includes:
“Be Our Guest,” from “Beauty and the Beast,” performed by the entire cast.
“Food Glorious Food,” from “Oliver!,” performed by the children of the cast – many of whom performed the song in last summer's production of “Oliver!”
“Kids,” performed by Apple Alley president Brian Tucker.
“For Good,” from “Wicked,” performed by Melissa Tucker and Jen Garten.
“Maybe,” performed by Erin Langin.
“When You're Good to Mama,” from “Chicago,” performed by Dannigale Acord.
“Don't Cry For Me, Argentina,” from “Evita,” performed by Melissa Tucker.
“One Day More,” from “Les Miserables,” performed by the cast.
“Rocky Horror Medley,” performed by the cast of the “Rocky Horror Concert Show.”
“I Can't Say No,” from “Oklahoma!,” performed by Danise Whitlock.
“Everything's Coming Up Roses,” from “Gypsy,” performed by Marie Wagoner.
“Consider Yourself,” from “Oliver!,” performed by the cast.
“Only Have Eyes for You,” performed by Sophie Davis.
“Luck Be a Lady,” from “Guys and Dolls,” performed by Hunter Martin.
“Raining Men,” performed by Melissa Tucker, Jen Garten, and Dannigale Acord.
“Lullaby of Broadway,” performed by the cast.
The benefit show is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, and Saturday, Jan. 28, in the KHS theater.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children, and may be purchased at Linda's Hallmark in Keyser, Cindi's Restaurant in Fort Ashby, and The Princess Restaurant in Frostburg.
Funds will once again be used to continue to renovate the amphiheater, which will be home to two major musicals this year - “Hello Dolly” in July and “Beauty and the Beast” in August.
