LUKE — Responding to requests from employees who want to support the businesses that use their products, NewPage officials have assembled a list of magazines, catalogs, retail outlets and consumer goods that use paper products manufactured at the Luke mill.
NewPage spokesperson Patsy Koontz presented the list at the July meeting of the Luke Mayor and Town Council. She said the report came from an employee publication, and was generated in response to requests from NewPage workers.
“This is information we put out to the employees,” she said. “They're interested in where our paper goes,
see NewPage page 6A
and we wanted to share that information with our employees and the public.”
The report details a lengthy list of products and businesses that use NewPage paper, from books, magazines and newspaper inserts, to bottle and can labels, food packaging and store displays.
“Did you know that if you purchased one of the new McDonald's cappuccino coffees or bought a bag of Pepperidge Farm Goldfish (both with coated-paper wraps); grabbed a bottle of Snapple or used a coupon to buy Papa John's pzza, that you were supporting our business?” the employee newsletter stated. “To encourage our employees to 'Buy NewPage,' we are excited to announce this new program developed to make that choice easier for you.”
The report broke the list down according to products produced at NewPage's 10 manufacturing plants, including the Luke Mill.
Under publications, 25 magazines were listed, ranging from Consumer Reports and Woman's World to the New York Times Magazine and BusinessWeek. The Luke facility produces paper for Country Living, Cycle World, Family Circle, Fitness, Flying, Glamour, Lucky, Popular Photography, Readers Digest, Self and Vanity Fair.
Retail outlets that use NewPage products include Costco, HomeDepot, Michael's and Target. The Luke plant supplies Macy's.
Catalogs using NewPage products include American Girl, Cabela's, L.L. Bean and Williams-Sonoma. The Luke plant supplies Fire Mountain Gems and REI.
The report included a laundry list of consumer products using NewPage paper, including Coors, Michelob, Hubba Bubba bubblegum, and McCormick Spices. The Luke facility supplies products for Campbell's Chunky Soup, Dannon Yogurt and Domino's Pizza.
NewPage officials said the list of products will be regularly updated under the new “Buy NewPage” campaign.
